Who We Are

The Illinois Association of Groundwater Professionals is dedicated to the protection and efficient utilization of groundwater, providing programs that support industry professionalism and providing consumer information about water wells and groundwater.  The association represents water well drillers, pump installers, geothermal loop contractors, technical drillers, water quality and water treatment professionals to protect our valuable water resource.  We are committed to offering quality educational programs, advocacy programs, legislative initiatives and public relations efforts to continue our mission in throughout Illinois on behalf of our members.

Our History

The Illinois Association of Groundwater Professionals (IAGP) is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the protection and effective use of groundwater in our state.  Originally formed in 1928 as the Illinois Well Drillers Association, our organization later shortened its name to the Illinois Water Well Association.

This article from the former National Water Well Association (now NGWA) highlights the growth of state associations and regulations in the years following the two World Wars.  An interesting read!

"Domestic well drilling business increased and so did the trend toward government regulation. The ground water industry which was generally neglected in earlier years, was no longer ignored by federal and state government officials who had become accustomed to controlling the nation during the Roosevelt presidency." For full article, click here.

In 1993 the name was again changed to its present form which, we feel, better reflects our professional membership within the groundwater industry and our expanded scope of service.
